Our 2-day course focuses on preparing candidates for their imminent Final FRCA Structured Oral Examination (SOE) or viva at the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
We have adapted our course for remote learning during the COVID pandemic. The course schedule still closely resembles our usual course with some necessary tweaks.
A series of high-yield ‘Masterclasses’ and workshops cover key exam content and viva technique in an interactive and entertaining way. Our ‘What the examiner wants’ is delivered by a current Final SOE examiner giving candidates the opportunity to better understand the exam. These are complimented by 3 full SOE examinations mirroring the structure of the RCOA Final SOE.
Plenty of time is allocated to examiner feedback on both exam technique and knowledge.
See below for an example course timetable – use the slider to view both days:
On Day 2 we replicate the feel of the real exam as closely as possible: candidates and examiners alike are expected to wear ‘exam’ dress; each viva has a ratio of 2 usually consultant anaesthetists to each candidate. Please note that should surge demands on our local hospitals occur this might unavoidably reduce this ratio.
We aim to keep costs as low as possible for candidates. While the RCoA have increased the exam fee for the remote sittings, we have more than halved our regular fee. Significant costs persist despite no longer hiring a venue. Our current remote course fee is £125 – we plan to keep this under review.
